Fire Prevention Education Toggle

All funds raised at Crawds 'n Rods goes to support Fire Prevention Education in the local schools. Local school children receive education materials such as coloring books, back packs, stickers, smoke detectors and much more.

Our annual budget covers operating expenses such as fuel, vehicle maintenance, equipment and gear. But it doesn't provide for any fire prevention education. We believe that fire prevention is extremely important and that it works! We are extremely motivated to provide this education to the local school children. We rely solely on the funds we raise at Crawds 'n Rods to provide this important and necessary education to our local schools.

AEach October, during fire prevention month, members of the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department go to the local schools and present a hands on education and awareness program for over 1,000 children.

The children also experience a life like fire safety house that demonstrates the importance of having a family escape plan. They will also learn when and how to call 911, "Stop, Drop and Roll" and they will be challenged to talk to their parents about smoke detectors and family evacuation plans.

During the program the children will also meet a Sparky the Fire Dog, our life sized mascot.
